Workshop on Formation of GO-NGO Coordination
The H.P. State Disaster Management Authority, Shimla organized one day workshop on Government Organization (GO)-Non-government Organization (NGO) Coordination and Himachal Pradesh Inter Agency Group (HPIAG) on 6th May, 2018. The emphasis was given on vital role of NGOs in disasters and the specific issues pertaining to disaster management. The Workshop was inaugurated by Shri D.C. Rana, HAS, Special Secretary (Science Technology & Environment, Revenue & Disaster Management) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh; in his remarks, he added that synergetic cooperation and coordination between the GOs-NGOs is vital to create an enabling environment for effective disaster management in the State. The terminology of Disaster and Disaster Risk in Himachal Pradesh; Mainstreaming DRR in the different/respective areas of interventions, detailed background of the initiatives undertaken for GO-NGO Coordination in the past and the need of forming an active and effective Inter Agency Group (IAG) were the focus topics of knowledge in the workshop.
As an outcome, it was decided that Disaster Management Cell, Department of Revenue will approve the final list of the Core Group members and volunteers. After the approval by the department, the Core Group will meet at least once in a quarter and HPIAG will meet twice a year, initially.
