Himachal Pradesh is one of the leading states in respect of achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in the country. District Hamirpur became the state’s first ODF district in 2009-10. Many research studies have been undertaken by different agencies from time to time in respect of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) coverage but status of schools sanitation where the girls spend a large amount of their time has still not been addressed. . School sanitation status of District Hamirpur needs to be studied to especially availability of toilets in the schools. A study of Knowledge, Attitude and Practices for Adolescent sanitation practices and infrastructure facilities in Himachal Pradesh has been awarded to Department of Management and Humanities, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, HP. The study aims to study knowledge attitudes and practices of adolescents regarding sanitation in schools; to study the functionality issues of existing toilets in the Schools and to examine and analyse the barriers, gaps. The study will be carried out in district Hamirpur and primary data will be collected with the help of questionnaires/interview schedules. The respondent schools; high and senior secondary schools (where the target sample exist) will be selected by using stratified random sampling method. Out of 83 senior secondary schools and 61 high schools, a 10% sample will be taken representing social, economic and geographical dimensions of the area. The study will make suggestive interventions required for improvement based on the findings of the study.The study will be completed in a period of 120 days from the date of the receipt of the funds.
